ABOUT US

In order to fight out and eradicate centuries old darkness of ignorance, superstition and ritualism, the great spiritual / social reformer of modern India, Maharishi Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded Arya Samaj in 1875. Swamiji earnestly desired to weed out irrational beliefs and misconceptions that had erepts in Aryan (Vedic) religion. He ardently wanted to revitalize the Vedic principles . For the purpose, Swamiji wrote the famous book known as “Satyarth Prakash” (सत्यार्थ प्रकाश ) (The Light of Truth) which succeeded in curbing the religious irrationalities being preached and practiced by most religions of the globe. This angered the vested interests so much that they began to conspire to halt Swamiji’s movement. They started a drive to kill all prominent leaders of Arya Samaj. These opponents brutally murdered two renowned scholars, Pandit Lekhram and Swami Shraddhanand. Arya Samaj followers and its properties become frequent victims of attack.

After the assassination of Swami Shradhanand on 23 December 1926, first Arya Mahasammelan was organized in 1927, under the chairmanship of Mahatma Hansraj. The Mahasammelan decided unanimously to constitute a special dedicated force in order to provide protection to the Arya leaders, its properties, activities and functions. Accordingly, Arya Raksha Samiti was formed with Mahatma Narayan Swami as its first President. The ARS was given a target to collect funds of Rs.10000 and select 10000 dedicated youths from all over the country.

However, the ARS enrolled 12000 youths and collected the requisite money, much before the deadline. Arya Raksha Samiti named the group of selected youths as Arya Veer Dal. On 26 January 1929 Sarvadeshik Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Arya Samaj duty constituted Arya Veer Dal by passing its constitution. Shri. Shivchandra was appointed as its first Sanchalak (President).

In the meantime, Mahashay Rajpal, a prominent Arya leader of Arya Samaj, was also assassinated in Lahore. To defect the aim of these senseless opponents, Mahatma Narayan Swami issued orders to constitute Arya Veer Dal Shakha (Unit) in each and every Arya Samaj premises.

As a result of this security support, attacks on Arya leaders soon halted. Arya Samaj began to function un-interruptedly. Seeing the effectiveness of Arya Veer Dal, Sarvadeshik Arya Pratinidhi Sabha duly announced the Arya Veer Dal as its Youth Wing in 1936. And the highly courageous Shri Om Prakash Tyagi was appointed as its Pradhan Sanchalak (President) in 1940.
